This patriotic quilt didn't get finished for the 4th, but was finished for the 14th! Ten days late, not too bad. I love how the sideboards were finished on this sugar "shack" so my friend and I did a little photobombing with my quilts. (It's her brother's camp so no illegal trespassing occurred!)
Next I need to make a plan to finish. None of my stash working for me as a backing, so I may have to go purchase something. The top quilting is also undecided. Oh the decisions, any suggestions?!?

You are making me think I really should make a red, white and blue quilt. It is a classic colour combo that always looks amazing. (Hmm. When I am queen bee in a few months ... )
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful finish! Good luck on finding the right backing that speaks to you. As for how to quilt it, I tend to navigate towards custom quilting, like outlining the stars (maybe a slight echo) and putting a design in the large square of each star. With that said, I think this would look just as good with an all-over pattern. Can't wait to see what you decide.
ReplyDeleteIt is so lovely, and the barn siding is rugged and so fun to look at in the photographs! How big did it finish? In keeping with the 4th of July theme, would looking at any photographs of fireworks inspire a quilting pattern? I'm digging around on Google images, and combined with small 5-point stars, something like that might look nice?
ReplyDeleteohhh so pretty, I love all the different prints!!! Not sure how to quilt it, I would do something simple, because it doesn't need heavy quilting because it is already very cool.
ReplyDeleteFor quilting, I can think of straight lines to make stripes for a "stars and stripes" theme. Or using a striped backing fabric could be fun? I'm not American though so take my suggestions with a grain of salt :D
ReplyDeleteFinished the top just in time for Bastille Day...and their colors are red, white, and blue too. So, you could always pretend it was intentional :) Love the rustic siding on that shack! And beautiful top!

Gorgeous quilt and gorgeous backdrop! I have a quilt with stars on it that I think I'm going to hand-quilt around, but that's just because I decided it needed a little more oomph. Yours already looks great... maybe just a simple allover quilting pattern?

ReplyDeleteSo glad I came back to see how this quilt top turned out. I love how it's a red, white, and blue quilt without being a typical red, white, and blue quilt. The aquas and teals and orangey reds transform it into something quite extraordinary.
