Be ... Bold

Sugar Block time over at Stichery Dickory Dock!  This month the theme is, be ... bold. The past two months have been super simple for me, be a teacher, and be a servant. Both of those two qualities are already a big part of my personality. As for this month ... bold is not in my nature.

I do enjoy going with the flow of thing, even if it's not what I would want or believe. The only times I stand up if the plan is to be hurtful or endangers someone else, I hardly ever speak up for myself. We are encouraged to "get comfortable being uncomfortable."  This could mean a few things to stretch your comfort zone and push yourself to; stand strong or speak out.  Usually I avoid confrontation like the plague. I avoid confrontational topics, touchy gossip, philosophy/political discussions, anything were people are most likely to have a much different point of view.  Happy - go - Lucky is more me!

Does anyones else have a hard time being bold?  I need some inspirational stories.

Sew long for now,
Patch & Chels

P.S. In case you were wondering where my sewing mojo has gone ... this is my mom and I cruising down the Merrimack River :)  Sorry for the poor quality ... it was from my phone!

  1. Oh, I really struggle to be bold as well. I was nodding my head in agreement as I read your post. So much of what you said really rings true for me as well. Speaking up? So scary! I can write letters and type and write blog posts all day, but if you ask me a question in person... I'm a clam and can have a really hard time speaking up for myself. This is actually something I am starting to think about and work on in myself. Baby steps, right? I think making a bold block and thinking about it as a challenge was a great start and maybe something I could consider as well.

  2. I really love the fabrics you chose for the sugar block quilt! I've signed up for the BOM but I'm totally slacking and haven't even started yet! Even last years blocks are pieced and still sitting in a stack waiting to be quilted together. For now, I'll enjoy looking at yours!

  3. Well, even if being bold isn't your thing, your bold block sure is lovely! Your river trip looks fun, too. :)

  5. Gorgeous block! Sorry, no inspirational stories here. I am most assuredly a non-confrontational type too.

  8. I wish I knew how to avoid confrontational subjects. I am always being honest, blunt and direct and putting my foot in it. Sigh.
However, I am proud of my abilities to be happy, confident and bold and to stand up for myself. I guess you cannot have it both ways.

  9. That is a very cool block - good on you for going outside your comfort zone. The quilt is going to look awesome when completed - well done!

  12. I do not have a hard time being bold when it comes to selecting fabrics for a quilt. I love to use bright, clear colors! However, in life I'm not so bold!

  13. I can relate to your sentiments. Sometimes I decide to be bold, and then I usually regret it! I'd rather observe...but I often admire those who will stand up and be bold. Your block looks very nice!

  14. Sweet blocks, Chelsea. I have the opposite problem. I rarely think ahead and consider the repercussions of my words or actions. Honest to a fault... Love the photo of you and your mom out on the water. Looks so peaceful!

  15. I used to be far more timid, and it often depends on the 'hat' I'm wearing. When I'm a student, or a peer I often get nervous and hold my tongue, but when I'm teaching a class or organizing a trip with friends I'm not afraid to voice my opinion or facilitate discussions. I'm sure when you're the teacher you're the one fielding the room - so you're probably more bold than you imagine!

Great kayaking picture...makes me wish that summer would never end!

  16. I'm in the same boat as you - if it's regarding someone else's well-being I can be bold (or a bold mamma bear in most cases) but it's not easy for me to stand up for myself. Great blocks though! Looks like I see some Happy Go Lucky, Scrumptious, and maybe even some Cotton + Steel fabrics.
