HST Quilt Along at NHMQG

Recently, I picked up this bundle of Gypsy Caravan by Amy Butler on a ridiculous sale at Craftsy. No plans, and no strings attached. It was sitting in my sewing area as I picked my fabrics for our HST Quilt Along at NHMQG. As nothing was working I sat there and kept looking over until I made the decision, this bundle is it! Paired with a Kona Bone for the background and I was good to go :)

The whole quilt is going to made from HST so, it was easiest to get all the fat quarters and background cut into 8.5 inch blocks, as I am using the 8 HST at a time method. If you are interested it's linked here. All the squares are cut and ready to go. The first four blocks went pretty fast minus having to square every one of them!

HST are the death of me, they are so tedious.  Good thing I have a whole year to complete the rest of the quilt!

  1. I love HST but don't enjoy trimming them up either. Love your fabric choices! It will be a beautiful quilt.

  3. HSTs can be time consuming... but they can be so worth it in the end. Your first four blocks are lovely, and it will be fun to watch this come together this year!

  4. I love HSTs, but hate trimming them. Looks like this will be a good quilt to stretch out over the whole year!

  5. loving the blocks you've done so far. I to struggle with HST, if I didn't have to trim them, I think I would be ok. But I will say I do love my bloc-loc ruler for trimming.

  8. I agree, the prep for the HSTs is the most time consuming part. I'm working on an HST quilt too and it seems to take the longest time just to get the blocks ready to sew together! I really like the way yours is looking and am excited to see the final quilt top. :)

  11. Lovely Chelsea! Get a rotating cutting mat and trimming these suckers up will be at least a little bit easier. :D

  13. I picked up a bundle of Amy Butler too - great deal though struggling what to do with it - not my usual fabric!

  14. This definitely inspires me! I don't know where I'm going to fit in a project like this sew-along, but using a bundle makes the fabric-deciding part more manageable. I've bought a fair amount of Amy Butler fabric over the past 10 years but nothing from this line, and the floral in the fourth picture is gorgeous!

  15. I love that last star! It looks so beachy. Every time I make a quilt with many HSTs to trim, I say "this will be the last one for a while". It hasn't worked out that way yet. ;) Good luck!

  16. I have toyed with the idea of a 101 things to do with HSTs quilt, and you are making the idea more appealing!

  17. haha! That is a good thing you have a whole year! The other great thing is that they turn out fabulously and are so diverse in their arrangement! Loving what you are doing and can't wait until it's all together in a year!
