Thimble Blossoms Update

Taking a little blogging break got me hand-stitching ambitious! Right, I was supposed to take a break.   Either way it kinda happened. One night I basted this quilt and sat on the couch for the remainder of the night hand stitching. It felt good doing nothing, but still productive. My kind of nothing.

This quilt is made from a variety of Thimble Blossom blocks all smushed into one quilt. Here is the whole thing finished from this summer. Yeah, I've been sitting on this one for a while. If you are interested in learning about "chunky" style hand stitching here is the tutorial. It's my favorite kind of hand quilting. It just makes everything pop.

You can see I have A LOT more to go. Looks like I will be spending more hours sitting in front of the TV! Anyone recommend a good show?

  1. Well, what kind of shows do you like? Blacklist is intense but really good. Elementary is intriguing and amusing (a spoof on Sherlock Holmes with a female Watson). I've also really been enjoying podcasts while I see. Invisibilia was super interesting and sparked many a conversation with my friends and family!

  4. I've tried hand stitching a couple times and just can't get into it the way others talk about zen-ing out with it. Maybe it's cause I need practice. I just love your stitching though, you're right it does totally make those blocks pop! I hadn't seen the floppy finish but am loving that there's two prints I can pick out from these pics that are used in two quilts I have at home :)

  6. I just started watching Game of Thrones. Not great for doing hand work while watching though, I get lost with whats happening pretty quickly. The entirety of Friends is available on Netflix as is 3rd Rock from the Sun?

  7. Looks lovely! Mum and I are kind of addicted to Nashville and I don't even like country music! Also love Person of Interest!

  9. Looks good so far! Shows that I recommend are: the Blacklist, Big Love, and Orange is the New Black (that's my current fave). I've heard really great things about Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, House of Cards, and Broadchurch, but haven't started those yet.

  10. The colors and pattern lend themselves to hand quilting. Good choice. Are you using embroidery floss too on this quilt? How many threads are you quilting with? I love old Hitchcock movies while doing busy work.
