Is anyone else as excited about the 1930's Farmer's Wife Sew Along hosted by Gnome Angel, Marti Michell, and Fat Quarter Shop? Let's say I squealed with glee when this was posted a while back. I quickly pulled all the 1930's print I had on hand. Then purchased a few more (shhh!). All the orange, yellow, and green prints got removed as I refined my final sections.
Here is the final line up, I did keep the aqua/teal colors but removed anything that was green. I also included some brown and neutral prints to tone down the rest of the colors. Then I found a layer cake of Storytime Prints, circa 1930, so I added them to the stash. This layer cake included some of those cute character prints that I love so much. It was such a great free find!
Then I pulled this chalkboard out and painted it a mint color. I had a wooden chalkboard for my 1920's Farmer's Wife Quilt, it got passed along as the "Traveling Chalkboard" so a new mint colored chalkboard is necessary for the 1930's round.
My copy of Farmer's Wife 1930's Sampler Quilt by Laurie Aaron Hird has arrived in the mail, and I have patently waited to start my blocks. Lets just say I am ready to take on this challenge!

ReplyDeleteI am not doing the QAL but that decision was a hard one and took lots of consideration! I love your 1930s fabrics. Given I have a stash of these already which I set aside for Green Tea and Sweet Beans (now abandoned), perhaps I should revisit the QAL decision and join in after all!!
ReplyDeleteYou take such great pictures Chelsea! That chalkboard is adorable and is a great way to stage your photo's. I used the Storytime prints in a disappearing nine patch last year and *love* those prints. It will be fun to see your progress on the quilt along with all those fun fabrics.

ReplyDeleteThe chalkboard is back for another go at the FWQ, I love it :) I thought about joining in on this QAL but I feel like I over commit myself as-it-is and I can't tell if the blocks will have a paper pieced option through the QAL and the only way I can see myself doing a FWQ is as a paper piece cause bias edges and perfect 1/4" seam allowances frighten me.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think I liked 1930's prints but these look lovely together. I have the 1920's book and thought I would try to do this one first. I am sure yours is going to be gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI have a small collection of 1930s prints for a one-day project. I naturally gravitate towards colours, but I think I might take your tip and add a few neutrals to the collection before I start. Any excuse to go shopping, right?
