Slow progress update.
Hand quilting takes forever! This top was started back in January and I am a little over half way done. My Aunt promptly called dibs on this one, and she has been waiting.
One of my school friends makes her quilts without batting, and I loved the idea. It still has weight but not as warm, perfect for New England summers. I did go with a solid pink, flannel backing to make this great for spring and fall too.
So far, the drape and snuggle factor has been super!
I like the idea of a summer weight quilt. Does your friend use anything between the back and front? A piece of flannel? I'm curious how much you can feel the seams if there's nothing between. That's my only concern. Otherwise, you've probably added something to my list of things to do this summer! Meanwhile your aunt is one lucky gal.

ReplyDeleteIt looks like it's coming along great! Kudos for you to do the hand quilting - I just have no patience. So, do you have anything in between the 2 layers? Just curious about this option, since I live in Florida after all.
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt and please explain more about the "no batting" I live in the south and this is something I'd like to try. And your right hand quilting does take forever. I find I enjoy it while I'm doing it but as soon as I put it down it seems a chore to pick it back up. And I think another problem I have is I don't know when to stop. Lol. I keep saying oh I'll just add some more here, or there. Lol.
ReplyDeleteAre you using quilting thread or something else? I'd like to hand quilt something with only the front and back but I've no clue about thread to use and if I'd use knots or ?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great option. It looks like there's a fair bit of interest in a summer weight quilt. You might have to do another post so we can get more detail. Does your friend usually use flannel as well? A flannel back sounds like it would be more snuggly.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt looks so soft,both in colors and drape. So curious about a quilt without batting. The flannel would add enough structure. And good for you doing the hand quilting!
