Farmer's Wife

Last week I broke down and printed all the templates for the Farmer's Wife quilt.  Some blocks where beyond trying to figure out.  I finally got around to sewing up another group of them.  Ok, I got really carried away here!  Here is a sneak peak into my method of madness.  That poor book binding might not make it through this experience!

Overall sewing with the templates wasn't bad.  They take forever to cut and trace, but not horrible to sew.  It actually is less trimming once I got going.  At first they were pretty intense, then things got easier, or less stressful.  Once all the blocks were laid out on the floor, I realized with only six more I have a good sized lap quilt.  Six more it is!

Sew long for now,

  2. Those look great. I love the more bright modern fabric that you're using, rather than some of the more traditional prints I see in some farmer's wife quilts out there.

  4. That's so impressive! I have just started the journey and have struggled with printing the templates. My blocks are turning out 6.75 inches for reasons I don't understand. Lovely colours too, thanks for sharing,

  5. I really love Gentleman's Fancy #2 and Weathervane. Also, I've never seen the bowtie in Bowtie before, but now I do!! It's looking great, and you are so close!

  6. Your color choices are amazing! I started a FW a few years ago, and I'm worried that when I pull them all out, I'm not going to like them as much as yours. Really really gorgeous blocks. :D

  7. I am from the new group. I am working on some of the Farmer's Wife blocks too. Laurie (author of Farmer's Wife) is my son's mother in law. The blocks that I'm working on will go into a wedding quilt for my son and daughter-in-law. I will share your post with Laurie and she will love seeing you're awesome blocks!
