Sugar Blocks 2016: Finished

Wowzers! This is to date the biggest quilt I have ever made.  Poor Mike didn't even know where to start when holding it up! His extendable arms were out of service.

The project started as the 2016 Sugar Block of the Month Club. Then after a few months of blocks I didn't love it turned into "all my favorite blocks club". Makes perfect sense this has become my favorite quilt!

Earlier Posts:

The color combinations in this quilt makes my heart flutter. I love the aqua, magenta, peach, mustard combination with some chambray. Swoon.

When finishing this quilt on retreat, I went to a local quilt shop (Thimbleberries on Cape Cod). There I found more of the Kate Spain fabric I used in the quilt for the border. I had been looking with no luck, so that was my lucky day! Not being a border person, I love what it adds to this particular quilt. May need to rethink borders ...

For the backing, I used the other sheet from my "Today is a Good Day for a Good Day" Quote quilt. They actually match in colors, binding and backing. Oh, and awesomeness! Love this pair.

It's economical and worked great both times :)

If only I could snuggle under them both at the same time without looking like a crazy quilt lady!

Sugar Blocks = Favorite Blocks

Whoa, where did summer go? We start school next week and I am far from ready. My lengthy "to do" list is yet to be "to done." There are about 10 sewing projects that I told myself I would have finished before summer was over.  Jokes on me.

**As all you parents out there read that last part, you let out a sigh of relief that you can have your sewing time back soon.**

One thing on that list was my Sugar Blocks. This weekend I was able to get the last six blocks done. I know it's only August but I have veered off course. Way off course. Here are my final additions.

Over the year I have been making my favorite blocks to fill in the rest of the quilt and got carried away. Now, I have 30 blocks and they are all favorites. Some are from the 2016 and the 2014 Sugar Block Club, others from a variety of places.

30 done, 0 pending. Now it's time to assemble the top, which is the actual goal for end of summer! Wish me luck.

July Sugar Blocks

This has officially become "All My Favorite Blocks" quilt along as I have stepped away from following the Sugar Block of the Month Club.

But, not too far!

These are my favorite blocks from the 2014 edition. Throughout the year I have been creating some of my favorite blocks to go along with the blocks from the club skipping those I do not love.

Thus far, I am in LOVE with how this quilt is turning out.

Count: 24 blocks out of 30

This is the same color palette from my quote top, so these should become an awesome pair of quilts one day!

My next goal is to stop making huge quilts!  They take so much more effort to finish.

Sugar Block Club: May + June

Where has the time gone? Ack. Half year already done, summer vacation is HERE! It's officially the first day of summer and I am all about reclaiming my life. So much has gone unattended.

May blocks are done! I also put in some Granny Squares and a couple Rocky Mountain Puzzle blocks as extras. Not sure about the June block yet, so that check is pending on my to do list. I might replace it with something else.

This quilt is becoming a collection of my favorite blocks along with some blocks from this year's Sugar Block Club. Here are the new additions to the collection.

These put me at 16 out of 30 blocks, so official more than half way done!

2016: Sugar Block of the Month Update

Computer problems. Well, internet problems, Bloglovin' problems.

Something changed recently. Now I cannot comment unless, I close out of Bloglovin'.  Huge pain.  Also pictures won't load. I have been reading posts with huge photo chunks missing. Let's all agree it's one of a best parts about reading blogs, all that visual candy! Yum.

Not sure if my internet cannot keep up, my bandwidth went missing, or my 5 year old computer is finally showing signs of old age. Either way I have strayed a bit lately for my own sanity.

My apologies. Once I heal my relationship with Bloglovin' things will be back to normal. Whatever that is ...

Now for some Sugar Block. Don't bother looking for March, it didn't happen (I was on vacation!!!!).

APRIL:

EXTRAS:

For the last round back in 2014, I ended up making 30 blocks in total for a nice big quilt and planning the same this time around. Truth be told, I wasn't a fan of March. So, I didn't make it. Instead I opted for a couple of my Picnic Pinwheel blocks to fill the void.

So far I love all these blocks. Oh, delight.

February Sugar Block

Hello February!  Your take on the log cabin block is beautiful.

It only took until February but we finally got our first snow day here in the Northeast! Snow day's happen to be the best because I am left with a whole day of no plans.  Translate to quilter's speak, a whole day to quilt without feeling guilty.

Another added bonus. The ground is finally covered with snow, or there is something to bounce light and make everything brighter! Good thing because the days around here have been pretty dull and drab.

Sugar Block of the Month

It's back! After missing last year Amy is bringing back the Sugar Block of the Month Club. The 2014 blocks were an absolute hit in my book.  So much so, I actually made my sister a full quilt from the January block. For the 2016 edition, Amy is releasing each block as a quilt pattern!  Totally takes away all the math I had to do. She also had made this year FREE, who doe's like free fun? Sign up with the link above.

Back in 2014, she had us reflect each month on different things. This year Amy has a "twist" each month on a traditional block. January starts with the Churn Dash block.  After learning from last time, I am going to start with making 2 of each block and fill in as needed for 30 total.

In the write up for the Club, Amy writes about taking a scrappy approach to the blocks. I am a huge fan of scrappy, but controlled scrappy. Starting with this pull I am going to try and stick with these 18 fabrics for the year with a low volume background.
