My sister's quilt did get finished on time, I was sewing on the binding just as Santa was arriving. It was that close. I under estimated the time it would take to finish this twin sized quilt. Much different than a quick baby quilt! Either way it's done and sister has already been enjoying it's warmth.
The top is FMQ with a loopy flower all over pattern. This was the fist time FMQ on my new machine so I wanted a forgiving pattern. It's one of those don't look to close finishes. After a quarter way through the quilting I found my rhythm then things started to improve. The backing is flannel, so this one was an extra heavy, twin sized struggle to get through the machine. Super warm, and a big workout! Pretty sure it negated all those sweets I have been enjoying.
Quilt Stats:
Your sister's quilt looks fabulous and thumbs up for you and your dad for making this ladder, I am really impressed! :-)
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for 2015!
Yay! It look lovely and kudos to you for conquering FMQ on the new machine. I'm waiting for Neveretts to call and say that my extension table is in ... I might be in business soon!
ReplyDeleteThat quilt came out beautifully. There's something about that essex linen that just sucks me in no matter how it's used! Love the quilt ladder. I should probably start dropping hints to the boyfriend to make me one starting in June huh :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt, your quilting looks great! I am glad you new machine is working out for you. Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteI just bought some of that fabric! Fun to see what you did with it! Well done :)

ReplyDeleteWhat a great mix of fabrics made into those lovely blocks. And the border fabric? Perfect! Love the matching binding! Your sister is a lucky girl!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the quilt ladder you made. Think your dad would be willing to share his directions? I have been wanting one of these for ages!!
ReplyDeleteSo many great things in this post - your sister's quilt, that great quilt ladder (I want one!) - and MAN is that an amazing pile of firewood!! I had to keep going back and looking at it piled sky-high. Impressive, as is the beautiful quilt displayed on it.
ReplyDeleteOooh a quilt ladder tutorial! That might might be the push my husband needs to make one for me ;)
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt, your sister is a lucky lady!
ReplyDeleteSisters quilt is so pretty, those colors are fabulous! Congrats on the ladder, it looks terrific and you and your Dad did a really nice job.
ReplyDeleteWow - your fmq is amazing! What machine did you use for this? Great finish!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I love the quilt. . .and the quilt ladder! My husband actually ordered one for me off of Etsy, and it was no longer available. He was crushed. . . even more than I was! We'll look forward to your tutorial, if you ever have the chance to write one with your dad! But back to your quilt, I love the FMQ that you did! I'm sure you are more critical of your own work than anyone else would be. A great finish, just in time!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Great quilt and love that ladder - looking forward to the tutorial
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on finishing your sister's quilt, and so glad to hear she is already enjoying its snuggly goodness. The quilt rack for you mom looks great, too - beautiful wood!
ReplyDeleteYour works are so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWell done, Dad, on the quilt ladder! There is always a bit of leeway of deadlines for family quilts, right? I too was admiring the border.
ReplyDeleteOh your sister's quilt is just beautiful- a overly and timely finish! It's a great pattern and the fabric is so lovely too! And yes please please for a quilt ladder tutorial- I'd love a quilt ladder rather than keeping all of mine stacked up in piles around the house!
