ABC - 123

Back in my "The Simple Life" post I made the confession that pre-cuts are not my thing. After years of trying to make them work, they really just don't follow my personal style. I have been slowly trying to use up what I have stashed. Bit by bit these precuts are finally dwindling.

Next on the chopping block is ABC 123 by American Jane ...

This might be one of my oldest jelly rolls on hand! The plan for these classic prints is the Jelly Roll Jam II, a free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop. Linked to the PDF. It's simple and quick.  Using a full jelly roll creates a small lap quilt (48 inches by 57 inches), perfect for solo snuggling on the couch. The whole top took one afternoon to whip up.

Now I for the quilting, not sure if I should do something with straight lines or stipple all over? Thinking less quilting than more. The one thing I am sure about is a black binding. Those two random black prints need some company!

  1. I'm usually a straight line girl, but a large stipple seems like it might work the best for this one. :)

  2. I like the idea of a wavy pattern against all those straight lines so vote for smothing swirly all over!

  3. This is beautiful! Not sure with the quilting - I love stippling, but cannot do this on my own - so I usually straight stitch.

  4. I would definitely be in the "pro-stipple" camp! It looks adorable.

  5. I think a wavy line would work well for this - it's quick and easy. It's Lorna's (from Sew Fresh Quilts) signature quilting and I love it. And I think the black binding would really look great on this and frame all of those colors nicely.

  6. Go beyond the stipple!! :P You could do a nice boxy meander, or a woodgrain, or paisley, or topography, or nice meandering waves.... :D Love the American Jane!!!

  7. Any quilting would work well, but I would choose something meandering instead of straight as loops and curves are easier to sew than straight lines.

  8. Very nice fabric!! Black binding will be great! Soft, swirly quilting would be my approach... plus I find it so much more relaxing (and forgiving!) than straight line quilting!
